本作为 METAL GEAR 系列的第4部游戏。 Metal Gear Solid 2 叙述2个部分的故事：在 Tanker 章节中， Solid Snake 追踪称为 Metal Gear的最高机密新型核武，潜入伪装的油轮之中。
